project goal
The fundamental goal of our project is to develop an innovative system to
localize entombed victims after an earthquake. In collaboration with our
partner the Military Disaster Relief we had the opportunity to analyze and
work with the state-of-the-art equipment and rescue methods. With the
knowledge of the benefits and limits of the existing tracking systems we
were able to formulate the specified goals of our ETH focus project:
- Develop and construct a system that allows localizing a victim
precisely after dogs indicated its position
- The system should be easy to control from the outside of the debris, transportable with an airplane and the energy supply should be guaranteed on-site
We decided to focus on the locomotion in the rough terrain, as this is probably one of the biggest challenges of our project and requires a robust and a lightweight construction as well as an intelligent control design.
